Civil Rights
I specialize in employment discrimination and police brutality/excessive forces cases. In both types of cases, individuals who have been denied basic rights and dignity based on who they are find the courage to stand up for themselves and take on much larger interests – either powerful companies or the government. I’m proud to represent these brave individuals and fight to protect the civil rights guaranteed by our Constitution.
Individualized attention and responsive communications.
Civil rights violations are, by nature, very emotional experiences. I understand the pain that my clients are suffering and make a point of carefully explaining the process of a lawsuit so that they know what to expect at every stage. I respond quickly to client communications because it’s important to me for my clients to know their case status at all times and participate in important case decisions.
Aggressive trial preparation from the start.
I believe that the only way to force powerful interests to treat plaintiffs fairly is to aggressively prepare for trial from the very beginning. Until and unless we prove that we’re going to beat them at trial, defendants will not admit wrongdoing and enter into fair settlement agreements. I start cases by picturing closing argument at a jury trial – I then relentlessly use the tools of discovery to obtain the evidence necessary to give that winning argument at trial. Oftentimes, defendants will settle upon realizing plaintiffs are trial ready. If not, we’ll be ready to take them on at trial and let a jury decide the consequences of their conduct.
