LEGAL EXPERIENCE
I am a trial lawyer. I’m grateful for the opportunity that I have to fight for justice and protect my clients’ interests and rights. I am focused, aggressive, and efficient.
I got my start and training by fighting tough cases on behalf of some of the most desperate clients imaginable. As a law student at New York University School of Law, I advocated on behalf of battered women trying to find protection, unemployed workers trying to make ends meet, and immigrants seeking asylum from torture. I also worked as a business litigator and gained experience in complex business litigation at two of the best litigation firms in the country - Faegre & Benson LLP and Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP.
After graduating from law school, I joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served as judge advocate. There is no better training ground for a trial lawyer – I tried over one-hundred felony and misdemeanor cases. I spent most of my time defending young Marines who had made bad mistakes and were facing many years in prison. I tried contested jury trials over and over again, obtaining exceptional results for my clients, including one of the first successful defenses of a Marine who was discriminated against based on sexual orientation.
I deployed to Iraq in 2005 and worked with the State Department, Justice Department, United Nations, European Union, and Iraqi judges and attorneys to help establish the rule of law in Iraq. I served as a prosecutor when I returned from deployment in 2006 and gained even more trial experience, establishing guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in numerous jury trials.
I joined Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP as a business and intellectual property litigator after my tour in the Marine Corps concluded. I gained experience representing corporations as large as Honeywell, General Electric, and US Bank and as small as mom and pop storefront businesses. I took and defended depositions of key witnesses, drafted and argued critical motions, and assisted at all levels of case preparation and strategy for trial and arbitration.
After running for Congress in 2008, I started my own practice because I believe in the rights of individuals and businesses to have a talented advocate in their corner – one who will aggressively fight for their rights without breaking the bank. I fight hard for my clients and I fight to win.
PERSONAL BACKGROUND
My parents moved to Boston from India shortly after they married. I was born in Boston, and my family moved all over the country as my brother, sister, and I grew up. We moved to Minnesota when I was in high school. I went to Osseo Senior High School and then the University of Minnesota, where I served as student-body president.
I went to law school at New York University School of Law and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps. I deployed to Iraq in 2005 and worked to help build the Iraqi legal system. After leaving the Marine Corps, I moved back to Minnesota and worked at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP as a business litigator in complex business disputes.
In October 2007, I announced my candidacy for the U.S. Congress in Minnesota’s Third District. I was grateful for the opportunity to advocate on behalf of working families and for the opportunity to serve our country. Despite a strong campaign, great supporters, and a message of unity for our country, I came up short in the election. Even setbacks can be blessings, however, as the loss allowed me to return to my love of practicing law.
